A College of the Desert student was nominated in the 73rd annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference (IBS) in New York.
Mike Mozingo won first place for the “Best Innovated Program” at this year’s conference. Last semester he submitted his “Halloween Special” and was selected as a finalist. Mozingo said he felt honored because “it is the first award for KCOD and it gets the station some recognition.”
He was also a finalist in the Best Specialty Music Show, and Best On-Air Personality categories. Laurilie Jackson, the KCOD instructor said, “Its a clear example of how hard work and dedication can really get you where you want to be,” she too is ecstatic that Mike won.
The purpose of the IBS Management Awards it to recognize all those who work tirelessly, faithfully and in most cases voluntarily to build, manage and program America’s great college and high school radio stations. IBS feels strongly that those who give liberally for the benefit of all should be honored.
Also, 3 other COD students attended the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System ceremony in New York. Jim Eisenacher, the programming director, Shauna Holmes station manager and James Reed veteran of KCOD accompanied by Laurilie Jackson, advisor of KCOD radio.
The top professionals in the industry, and the best college and high school radio, television, and webcast radio people in the states and around the world, over 1,000 attended IBS. This is the largest conference of the year. The attendees were exposed to the need to know in radio, touring, and live music events.
After being announced the winner, Mozingo said, “I thank KCOD because without the station I would not be pursuing a career in radio.” He also went on to thank the College of the Desert Alumni Association for their continuous support.”
Shauna Holmes, station manager of KCOD said, “It was great seeing someones hard work pay off and be recognized.”
Mike Mozingo is now interning at Mix 100.5-FM and has his own slot on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm.
