Student workers, Tone Rubio’s, and Nancy Ramirez Legy’s artwork from the 2012 Dia de los Muertos (DDLM) event now have a home in Raices del Valle’s Coachella headquarters. Both artist have pieces in prestigious galleries, the Palm Springs Museum houses a couple works from the two artist.
After the (DDLM) event in November of 2012, Raices del Valle, the organization that organized the production, did not have a proper setting to house the art pieces used for the event. Recently an art committee within the organization decided to place most of the professional artwork inside the organizations headquarters in Coachella. Pieces by both artist, and other professional artist are on display in the Sixth Street and Orchard warehouse behind the main Raices office.
Volunteers and employees who work for Raices now enjoy a more scenic workplace. People, the public and those interested are welcome to come inside and observe the various works on display. Raices allows various other organizations to use their offices from time to time, visitors are welcome if the current situations allow.
The Coachella office offers after school extra curricular activities for kids K-12. In recent years the organization has begun to offer formal activities, such as weekend and after school art workshops, women empowerment workshops, cultural awareness workshops, gardening workshops, and higher education workshops aimed at educating the community about issues affecting the Coachella Valley, neighboring communities, locally and abroad.
In a more informal sense, the Raices office in Coachella acts as a deterrent, helping kids keep off the streets, away from crime, and socially detrimental activities after school.
